Bongate house is a four and a half star bed and breakfast set in the idyllic location of Appleby in Westmorland close the Appleby Castle. The bed and breakfast is set in a very sought after location not far from the lakes. Many previous guests have stayed here due to how convenient it is to get to nearby Penrith and Kendal. Many boast how well located it is.
There are extensive gardens for guests to relax in as well as to enjoy the scenery. Reviews mention how well looked after the gardens are and how nice it is to have the option of being outdoors.
The owner really pulls out all the stops with his guests by offering a taxi service for those walking and if the weather is not great to ensure people are still able to get out and about. Many people have reviewed the service as outstanding.
The bed and breakfast is very well reviewed however most agree the little extras are lacking such as the complimentary tea and cake on arrival was little coffee shop biscuits, tinned fruit at breakfast instead of fresh and cheap syrups instead of jams and marmalades.
The rooms have been reviewed as having dated decor and being on the small size as well as the bathrooms, taking into consideration one room shares a bathroom with other guests.
Breakfast is served from 8 - 9am giving those staying an early start to their day. Previous guests who have been staying on holiday have mentioned it could be given a later finish time to allow a little more of a relaxed stay.
