The Blue Moon is a 4-star boutique hotel located on Orchard Street in New York’s Lower East Side. It offers easy access to the shops, galleries, and restaurants of the East Village, SoHo, and Chinatown. Bus and subway stops connecting guests to the rest of the City are also nearby. The hotel is housed in what was an 8-story brick tenement, transformed into a hotel by architect Randy Settenbrino. Public and residential spaces are decorated in an “old New York” theme, complete with memorabilia and artifacts from the 1930s and 1940s. Guestrooms are named after New York personalities of the same era—Benny Goodman, Al Jolson and Duke Ellington, among others. Accommodations consist of 22 rooms and suites, starting at 320 sq ft. All rooms have luxury amenities appropriate to a 4-star hotel, including period bathrobes, 10-14 ft ceilings, and balconies or terraces. Many also have sleeper sofas (some with trundles) and hydromassage baths. The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast, New York deli style with fresh fruit and bagels. The 24-hour front desk provides a practical hub for meeting guest needs. In 2007 Citisearch selected the Blue Moon as New York’s best boutique hotel.
