About Baglio Fontana

Lying on the hills between Trapani and Castellammare del Golfo, Baglio Fontana is located at the very heart of what was once called “Parecchiata Casale Busith” and today is known as Buseto Palizzolo. The farmhouse, as the name itself suggests, was built within a so called ”Baglio”. The term, deriving from the Latin word “ballium” and the Arabic “Bahal”, indicates a courtyard surrounded by walls. That was a typical Sicilian rural site, consisting of several adjoining buildings with a quadrangular plan. The warehouses were used to store the local products (wine, oil, wheat). The heart of the site was represented by its central courtyard, towered by the master’s manor. The original settlement of the Baglio dates back to the end of the year 1701, when it was established by Giuseppe Fontana, progenitor of the family who still owns it. A clever and careful conservation work has recently turned the building into an elegant farmhouse, where comfort, culture and tradition perfectly combine. A holiday here has a special taste as you feel like going back to the past in that wonderful and unique land called Sicily. The farmhouse “B.F.” boasts an excellent position in Trapani.
