About Holzhotel Forsthofalm

4-Star Timber Hotel Forsthofalm – Leogang – Salzburger Land At an altitude of 1,050m – high above the village of Leogang – the Timber Hotel Forsthofalm fits snugly into the landscape, surrounded by rugged peaks and enveloped by lush meadows and deep forests. The revolutionary timber construction is entirely built of Moon Timber, which, together with local stone and glass, embodies the building’s ambience. All rooms & suites as well as the interiors of the public areas are presented in warm and earthy hues that correspond with local natural materials like spruce, pine and stone pine, green slate, linen, jute, clay and leather. In addition to the hotel’s all-embracing feeling of comfort, we have paid particular attention to the Forsthofalm’s green credentials by including a resource-saving energy supply with an ambitious photovoltaic & biomass programme in the project. Official recognitions include the EU Ecolabel 2012, the Austrian Ecolabel 2012 and the Aphrodite Spa Award for Ecology & Sustainability – comprehensive proof that environmental issues and sustainability are not hollow philosophy but a day to day reality at the Forsthofalm. Under the motto ‘freedom in nature’ we offer you an exciting life concept, following the laws of nature, free of average thinking and everyday norms – 365 days a year! The undisputable highlight of the Forsthofalm is the remarkable Sky Spa on the hotel’s rooftop. The extensive terrace with all year round pool is the ultimate place to be for an energetic swim, to relax and get an energy boost. The glorious vistas are truly 360˚, spanning the valley and the Leogang stone mountains. Individual rest areas, a specially equipped cosy Nest, a fireplace lounge, a hammock room, the SPAbar and a spacious cardio fitness room with floor to ceiling glazing are additional features – here only the windows seem to separate you from the sky. An organic herbal sauna, Finnish sauna, salt steam bath, several relaxation areas, a vitamin bar and treatment rooms for massages and beauty treatments are at your disposal. Romantics can book arrangements for private hours in the panoramic rooftop bathtub, the sauna and the steam room. Our spa treatments with homemade oils, creams, scrubs and wraps are based on the harvesting of hand-picked seasonal herbs and are a source of soothing relaxation. Claudia Widauer, also affectionately known as our own herb fairy, collects these in the hotel’s own herb garden and the surrounding pastures. A varied weekly Mountain Life programme including yoga compliments the offer. Our brand new restaurant concept KUKKA embraces an open kitchen with charcoal grill and a bread baking oven integrated in the buffet. KUKKA means ‘flower’ in Finnish and was chosen as homage to Markus Widauer’s wife Emmi’s home country Finland. Our cuisine is as wild, tame, beautiful, surprising and varied as nature. The authoritative 2014 Gault Millau guide awards our dynamic chef Thomas Bauer with 1 to que and 13 points. Our produce is sourced from local farmers and regional suppliers with 70% of all foodstuffs being organic. Chef Robert Bauer actively involves guests in the preparation of dishes by the open fire. Our wine list brims with fine Austrian and international wines and includes highest quality organic wines. The leisure options are virtually unlimited: 1300km cycling & biking paths, Europe's largest bike park with downhill and freeride trails, steep mountain ranges and grassy hills with climbing routes for all levels of ability, as well as 17 golf courses in the SalzburgerLand are waiting to be discovered. A 400km network of hiking trails offer a great summertime incentive for setting off on expeditions that begin on the Forsthofalm’s doorstep. And in winter there is the Leogang-Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski circus with its 200km of impeccably groomed slopes and 55 modern lifts that take you up to an altitude of 2000m – all including ski-in & ski-out in front of the hotel. For a gentler winter holiday experience that does not involve Alpine skiing, there are 40km of well-maintained cross-country ski tracks, numerous hiking trails as well as snow-covered slopes for snowshoeing and tobogganing – mostly with direct access from and to the Forsthofalm. A romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride through Leogang’s winter fairy-tale landscape is another must do for your holiday programme …
