Ideally positioned for touring West Cork, the Glengarriff Park Hotel offers refined and elegant accommodation at the gateway to the beautiful Glengarriff Nature Reserve. The sophisticated rooms are decorated and furnished to a high standard, and feature satellite TV’s, tea/coffee stations and telephones. There is underfloor heating for those cold winter days. There is ample parking on-site, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, including the rooms. The Park Bistro is well known in the area, and prides itself on using the very best local ingredients to create dishes that surprise and satisfy. McCarthy’s Bar is another good dining option. Aside from the usual pints, it also serves café style food all day. The famous Blue Pool is just a short walk away, and the ferry out to Garnish Island can be boarded nearby. The immaculately maintained Glengarriff Golf Club is just 1.5 miles to the east.
The on-site bar, McCarthy's, comes in for a good deal of praise from the guests. They describe the atmosphere as friendly and jovial, and exactly what one looks for in a pub when travelling. The food it serves is also described as not too shabby.
While there were a few opinions to the contrary, the overwhelming majority of guests mentioned that their rooms were exceptionally spacious. There seemed to be more than enough space for all in their party, and the extra space gave them as sense of luxury.
Several guests mentioned that they thought the décor in their rooms was top notch. The design seemed to work for them, and there were no comments about “tired” or “old fashioned” décor to be found anywhere.
A surprising number of guests mentioned that, once they'd parked at the back they had no idea at all how to get to the hotel's reception. It was pointed out that there were no signs, and the actual route was in no way obvious or natural.
Many guests were in the area to do a bit of touring of scenic Wet Cork, and were just a little disappointed that neither their room, nor public areas in the hotel, really afforded good views of the surrounding mountains. Having such a view would have helped them get in the spirit of touring a bit easier.
It was mentioned that the on-site restaurant only opens at weekends. The pub also serves food, but this wasn't always what guests were looking for. They would have loved to be able to eat at the restaurant instead.
