Situated in a residential area right next to one of Rome’s largest parks, the Giotto Hotel Rome offers simple accommodation in peaceful surrounds not too far from the Vatican. The rooms have simple décor, with cool tile flooring, and feature air conditioning, minibars, TV’s, telephones and in-room safes. Reception is open 24 hours and can assist with tours, transfers and basic business services. There is also a roof terrace, ideal for those warm Roman evenings. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and there are also meeting rooms of various sizes for business guests. A basic continental breakfast is available every morning, while reception staff will be happy to offer dining recommendations for other meals. While not in central Rome, the Giotto Hotel Rome is not far out. Battistini Metro Station is a 12-minute walk away. The entrance to the immense Vatican Museums is just 2.5 miles from the hotel, and the famous Spanish Steps 4.2 miles.
The location isn't in central Rome, but guests who realised this when booking didn't seem to have an issue with it. The nearest metro station was said to be about a 10-minute walk away, and from there guests could quickly get into the heart of tourist Rome.
There were a lot of negative opinions expressed by guests, but a vocal minority did say that they thought they received good value. Perhaps it depended on what sort of room they were allocated, and what room-rate they paid. If the stars aligned the guest often considered their stay good value.
Guests really seemed to have appreciated the rooftop terrace. There is a bar up there, and they explained that it was a terrific place to just relax with a drink after a long hot day touring Rome's big attractions.
While guests who received a particularly low room-rate could put up with it, many guests do mention that the rooms were somehow both very basic, and what was there was very dated and worn. In their mind, the rooms needed a very major update to be acceptable for the star rating.
It was hard to find anything good said about the breakfast. Guests mention that it is served in an unattractive basement room, is very meagre, and the coffee is dispensed by what guests are shocked to discover is a vending machine. Something they found inexplicable and unacceptable in Italy.
While not all guests experienced this, the ones who did get one of the especially small rooms described them as almost comically small - so small that the bed acted as doorstop. They were clearly not happy, and felt the rooms couldn't really function as a proper hotel room.
