About Locanda Del Ponte

La Locanda in Balsorano was created from a recovery of an old farmhouse, built in 1950 on the left side of the Liri River and adjacent to the Roman Old Bridge. The country house, in the fifties and sixties, was an emporium, a food market, a tavern and had the function of post station when the nearby roads were only sheep-tracks. On this building the owner placed a wind turbine, made of recycled materials such as wood, batteries and bits of motor engine. It was 1955 and it was the first electricity reaching the area. In the following years the owner migrated in Canada and, with 30 years of abandonment, the country house became the free shelter of the swallows. The renovation works started in 2003 and finished in 2005, respecting of the surrounding environment and with a particular attention to safety measures. From the “Shelter of Swallows” four accommodations were made, all with private bathrooms: one double room and three small 2-rooms apartments. On the ground floor and in the adjacent building, the old barn and stable, there are now the owner’s accommodations. The garden leads to the open air swimming-pool and to the nearby private parking. Everything next to the River Liri.
