About Chalet-Vila Maria
The VILA MARIA CHALET situated in the Santa Rita Valley was built in the year 1908. In 1858 D. Guilhermina Augusta de Oliveira was a single mother and promised Santa Rita de Cassia to name Santa Rita to her son if everything went well. So he gave his son the name of William Augusto de Santa Rita, who became a recognized writer and poet. Guilherme Augusto de Santa Rita married Palmira de Jesus Laura Moraes Cau Costa. Enchanted with the beauty of this Estoril Coast, overlooking the sea, they bought lands and pine forests and created a large farm with vineyards and olive trees and built several chalets for their children, starting the settlement of the Vale. In honor of this family the Valley was renamed Vale de Santa Rita and has a street and a small shrine with the same name.
