Cocolia offers nine eco-friendly bungalows located in the upper part of Playa de Mermejita, in the Magical Town of Mazunte. The hotel has a saltwater pool and a restaurant where breakfast is served with the ocean in front of you. If you are looking for a place outside the city and you are ready to wake up with the singing of different birds, enjoy the unbeatable sunsets, a sky full of stars and fall asleep with the murmur of the waves, this is your place. The bungalows are 54 square meters and have comfortable King Size beds, linens of the excellent quality, spacious mosquito nets, a writing desk, and an ample storage space for personal effects. The unique minimalist interiors combine local materials with the work of local designers and weavers, featuring subdued colors, few wall adornments and driftwood used to create soft indirect lighting. The hotel was built mixing vernacular architecture and new technologies in order to preserve and protect the topography of the land and the flora and fauna covering the rolling hills. Rain water is collected to prevent erosion and recycled for use in the dry season. The hotel does not have hot water. Our energy is based on solar panels, so we have a restricted use of it, and therefore we cannot use irons, hair dryers or curling irons, coffee makers, as well as any electronic device similar to those mentioned above. For sure you can charge your cell phone and your computer. Due to our location we do not have telephone signal in most of the bungalows, only in some areas of the hotel, and we have wifi only at the entrance of the hotel. It is a place with a lot of privacy, ideal to rest from the city and be very immersed with nature. We also inform you that Cocolia Hotel is within an area with abundant flora and fauna, therefore it is very common to find diversity of fauna and insects. We recommend you bring mosquito repellent. We are located in the highest area of Mermejita in a semi-virgin area, 1km from the town and the beach. The way to get to the hotel is via a dirt road with steep climbs and descents, so walking takes between 20 to 25 minutes (not suitable for people with walking difficulties or older adults). Cacao Restaurant: the restaurant offers a simple delicious menu for breakfast and dinner. For the morning we propose fresh juices, detox smoothies, homemade whole grain bread and sweet rolls as well as any of the daily specialties. For the evening our chef seamlessly fuses traditional Mexican recipes with healing restorative ingredients to tempt every palette. Vegetarian, vegan and non-vegetarian options are always available in addition to our fixed menu, our chef offers 3 daily market specials. The pool: Located on the highest point on the land, with a 180-degree view of Punta Cometa, the rolling hills and the ever-changing Playa Mermejita is the most spectacular vista of them all. The water is natural and slightly salty to avoid the use of chemical products. The rectangular shape is suitable for swimming, and it also integrates a bench inside the water in order to rest in the freshness of the water and enjoy the views. Lounge chairs and umbrellas generate different areas to enjoy the views. Bar and restaurant services are available at the pool. Each year, the Ventanilla Stone formations attract shamans, ceremonial dancers and many national and international visitors for a traditional winter solstice celebration, when the full moon extends through the night sky to welcome the sun and it rises in the exact center of this rock formation surrounded by the sea. Between the months of November and April you can see the whales on their migration routes. During the rest of the year you can also see turtles, dolphins and all kinds of fish in this Oaxacan coast. Three times a year turtles arrive to spawn at Escobilla beach.
