Located in the very heart of Bruges, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Grote Markt, Sablon is a modern hotel offering stylish accommodation to guests who demand to be in the heart of the action.
All of the 43 rooms are stylish and have been individually decorated and furnished. Each feature en-suite bathroom and work desk.
Sablon is a small establishment and there are not many public facilities. There is a guest lounge off the bedrooms, the ideal place to socialise and meet other travellers.
A basic continental breakfast buffet is available every morning. Reception staff will be happy to offer good local dining recommendations for the other two meals.
The hotel really is in the heart of the Old city, and all of its attractions and charms are well within easy strolling distance. The Grote Markt, the city’s main square, is just 250 yards away.
It was undoubtedly the hotel's great central location that most impressed guests. They had naturally come to Bruges for a bit of history, and to soak up the atmosphere of the charming streets and canals, so they were very happy to be staying right in the very heart of the Old Town.
Excellent value for money
Again and again guests expressed their astonishment at the great room-rate they got. Given the comfortable accommodation, and terrific central location, they could scarcely believe what they paid and were unanimous in saying they received excellent value for money.
Sweets and chocolates
Many guests reported that the hotel's staff puts out jars of sweets and chocolates, free for guests, at a number of strategic points around the hotel. They found it a small, but very thoughtful, gesture and were clearly delighted.
Not a luxury hotel
Firstly, it has to be said that the reviews of Grand du Sablon were simply overwhelmingly positive. It was nearly impossible to find negative reviews. One point raised was that the name might be a little misleading. Guests say it is a great hotel, and very good value, but it is not grand in the sense of being luxurious.
Rooms not well soundproofed
A couple of guests mentioned that the walls seem to be “paper thin”, and that sound tends to travel through them at will. As a result, their sleep quality could be determined by how loud or considerate their neighbouring guests were.
Parking some distance away
A few motorists mentioned that, while the hotel does have its own secure parking, it is some distance away - about five minutes on foot. This made using one's car regularly very awkward.
