The hotel is tucked away in the Cumbrian countryside and surrounded by its own private gardens which provide a very peaceful and scenic backdrop. Guests appreciated being away from the hustle and bustle yet still being within walking distance of the village with its numerous shops, pubs and restaurants.
Guests who visited the on-site spa said that they were very impressed with the facility which features steam rooms, a hydro- therapy pool as well as an outdoor relaxation area complete with a fire pit. The spa area was said to be clean and tastefully decorated whilst the treatments were described as very relaxing carried out by professional therapists.
The food at the on-site restaurants was described as well prepared and made from quality local ingredients. Guests said that they found the menus quite extensive and that the range of dishes appealed to various tastes and preferences. The service was said to attentive whilst the dining rooms were described as light, airy and tastefully decorated.
Guests whose rooms were located on the second floor said that they found it quite tiring climbing the steep and narrow stairs in order to get to their accommodation as there is no lift in the building. If you have any mobility issues it's advisable to ask for a room on the ground floor.
The hotel overlooks a busy road and guests whose rooms were in situated in the annexe said that they were able to hear traffic noise especially when their windows were open.
Some of the guests mentioned that the rooms were starting to show their age with peeling wallpapers and worn upholstery and carpets.
