The major attraction in the area is perhaps the imposing Alcazaba of Almeria, just 0.6 miles from Plaza Vieja Hotel. Almeria Airport is approximately seven miles to the east.
While it seems these have only been open a short time, the hotel's spa area is possibly what recent guests most like about the hotel. The list of treatments available is described as very comprehensive, and the whole atmosphere there as being very calming and sensual.
The food at the hotel's restaurant, other than at breakfast, was generally well received. It is described as Basque, somewhat unusual in Andalusia, very tasty and available at surprisingly good prices.
Though small, several guests listed this as their favourite feature. They found it an ideal place just to relax with a drink and watch the activity on the busy square below.
While most guests did seem to like the hotel's leading edge design, some also found it a bit too much. Not pretentious exactly, but they seemed to feel that it was over-designed, and some elements would have benefited by being more subdued.
A couple of motorists mentioned that the hotel's parking was particularly difficult to find. Even when given detailed instructions, they still found in quite tricky. Of course once they had used it a couple of times they got to know exactly where to go.
While not a very common complaint, it does seem like the standard rooms are very small indeed. Guests had clearly not been expecting the rooms to be that small. Those who really like their space may consider one of the larger room classes.
